Something I love is bizarre, obscure, and lost media; it has always fascinated me and even freaked me out. There's something about the fact stuff is just left forgotten gives me a weird existential feeling. So, I felt it would be fun to dedicate this area to all of that obscure stuff.

Obscure | D.B's Delight

D.B. Doorbell; the puppet used in D.B's Delight. Starting off this area I wanna bring up a piece of my mom’s childhood. D.B's Delight was a show from the local St. Louis area that aired from 1977-1988. The show was a children's quiz show that frequently hosted students from local schools as they answered academic questions including math, science, history, and other main academic areas. The host of the show was a puppet named D.B Doorbell and would be seated on a podium in the middle of the stage.

Backtracking a bit, I want to focus on something especially interesting to me: the show lasted eleven years yet to my knowledge only a few episodes are available online. This isn't too uncommon for local television shows but it's honestly crazy that only so many episodes have made it to digital and information on the show itself is incredibly scarce. Every page I found talking about it usually just says the same thing about the simple layout and premise of the show. I think that media preservation is super important especially for local television shows since they are apart of the history of an area.

Something also interesting I have found when digging for information on this show is the existence of another show called "Gator Tales" by the same production company. This show aired in areas through Missouri, Arkansas, and Illinois, making it far more syndicated than D.B's Delight. It lasted eleven years just like D.B's Delight, starting in 1988, right after the end of D.B's Delight. To my knowledge, the puppet "Grouchie Gator" was used by the Kincaid Karacter Company up until at least recently, with the character making an appearance at Six Flags Over Georgia for a Holiday event. However, episodes for this show are even more scarce as I was only able to find one clip online.
